Between 17 and 19 March 2026, B-Cubed organised a workshop on indicators of invasive alien species (IAS) in Brussels. The workshop brought together people from agencies of different countries and institutions (like IUCN and JRC), and researchers to exchange and discuss hands-on experiences with the application and reporting of IAS indicators.
The first two days of the workshop were held at the Brussels Environment Agency, while the last day was held at Meise Botanic Garden, where participants discussed how the insights could be formed into written outcomes.
Throughout the event, participants engaged in discussions and shared experiences on the use of IAS indicators, their application, the data and workflows to calculate them and the way of reporting results.
A central question arising during the workshop was how countries can measure their progress towards Target 6 of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The main conclusion reached in that regard was that modular approaches are needed to reflect the varying levels of data availability and capacity of member states.
